Professor of Meteorology and Climate Dynamics, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Nigeria; Scientist in Ocean Circulation and Climate Dynamics, GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel, Germany
Prof. Dr. Hyacinth C. Nnamchi is a Nigerian climate scientist specialising in meteorology, climate dynamics, ocean–atmosphere interactions, and tropical climate variability. He is a Professor at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and a researcher at GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel, Germany, where his work focuses on ocean circulation and climate dynamics. He obtained his bachelor's degree in Geography and Climatology and a master's degree in Climatology from the University of Nigeria before completing his doctoral studies in meteorology at the Institute of Atmospheric Physics in Beijing, China, in 2013. From 2018 to 2020, he held an Alexander von Humboldt postdoctoral fellowship at GEOMAR. His research investigates interactions between the tropical Atlantic Ocean and the atmosphere, climate variability, West African monsoon dynamics, and the mechanisms influencing regional and global climate patterns. He contributed as a lead author to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's Sixth Assessment Report, Working Group I. He is also a member of the CLIVAR Atlantic Regional Panel, contributing to international scientific collaboration on climate variability and prediction. His expertise is particularly relevant to understanding ocean–climate interactions and strengthening climate research capacity in Africa.
